Southco plans Florida expansion

WEST MELBOURNE, Fla. — Southco Marine has plans for an expanded production and distribution center to be located in Florida’s Brevard County, the company reported in a recent press release.

The new 16,000-square-foot facility, to be located in Rockledge, Fla., will replace the existing Southco Marine facility in West Melbourne, Fla., and the previous headquarters of Orcas Marine Products in Crystal River, on Florida’s west coast. Southco Marine acquired Orcas Marine in the fall of 2006, and has been working to integrate the company’s product development, sales, distribution and support functions into the Southco Marine organization.

Richard Hipp, general manager of Southco Marine, said the new facility will enable the company to house customer service, distribution, assembly and technical support under one roof. The expanded facility will house a product showroom and can also be used for product and application training, sales support, customer seminars and new product development.

“The consolidation of our existing Florida facilities into one, focused operation will greatly benefit our marine customers,” said Hipp. “In addition to being physically closer to our customers, our new facility will enable us to ship all of our marine products from a single location regardless of where they were manufactured, providing our customers with logistic savings, a higher level of customer service and a true one-stop shop for all their marine hardware needs.”

Hipp said the new facility is scheduled to be completed by August.
