Honda continually improves its marine engine line by incorporating technologies from its highly advanced automotive and racing heritage. In order to maximize power output and durability, Honda Marine outboards are based on the sophisticated technology derived from Formula I and Indy cars, racing motorcycles and street vehicles. In addition, many Honda Marine outboards include exclusive technological features found in the company’s most popular automobile engines including the Honda Accord, CR-V, Element and Civic.
The unparalleled performance, power and reliability of the Honda Marine 4-stroke engine line is attributed to a number of exclusive technological features such as Honda’s Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control (VTEC™). First debuting in the high-performance Acura NSX sports car, VTEC™ technology has since been integrated into the designs of the BF225, BF150 and BF90 marine engines, providing these flagship models a unique blend of power, torque and efficiency at any speed.
VTEC™ works to vary the lift and duration of the intake valve opening to deliver optimal performance at both low and high rpm, resulting in peak performance at all speeds. The technology provides a broad, flat torque curve and smooth power delivery throughout the engine’s entire operating range, allowing the operator to enjoy both outstanding performance and impressive fuel economy.
Boosted Low Speed Torque (BLAST™), Dual-Stage Induction, Lean Burn Control, 3-Way Cooling and a 4-Front Corrosion Protection System are just a few of the innovative design components that combine to deliver on Honda Marine’s promise of excellent power and durability.
Honda Marine also offers an industry first 5-year, non-declining limited factory warranty. The program offers true Honda factory backing in comparison to outsourced, extended service contracts often provided by other manufacturers. Currently available on Honda engines ranging from the BF40 through the BF225, coverage for the True 5 limited warranty is the same on the last day as it is on the first.
