Boat auction set for Miami show

MIAMI – South Florida’s Wave magazine will launch a $1 million “WaveAuction” online boat auction at the Miami International Boat Show, the company said yesterday.

The magazine’s launch of the nationwide auction of three new boats, with suggested retail prices from $28,000 to more than $100,000, will comprise the first phase of a rolling auction.

“The $1 million new boats auction is our way of thanking boating enthusiasts in South Florida and nationwide for their support of the publication and to help build our presence as a leading online boating and watersports resource,” said Wave publisher and president Jose Chao in the release. “Our partnership with boat dealers in markets across the country will enable enthusiasts everywhere to examine the new boats as they are made available and participate as never before in the exciting auction process.”

The first three boats up for auction in February include:

  • 2006 Glastron SX195, a 19-foot family runabout, with a 5.0 GL Volvo Penta engine and single axle galvanized trailer, MSRP over $28,000. Bidding will start at $1 with no reserve.
  • 2006 Wellcraft 232 Fisherman, a 23-foot center console, with a F225 Yamaha engine, with MSRP over $58,000.
  • 2006 Four Winns 278 Vista, a 28-foot cruiser, with a 280 horsepower Volvo Penta engine. The MSRP is more than $108,000. This will be a sealed bid/silent auction.
  • Boat show visitors can bid at the Internet Cafe sponsored by Wave at the Miami Beach Convention Center or at their convenience anywhere there is Internet access. Prospective bidders across the U.S. also will be able to fully participate by having the opportunity to “inspect” the boats at over 400 participating dealers that make copies of Wave available in their showrooms.
