Genmar bankruptcy Webinar set for Wednesday

OAK PARK, Ill. — Bellavia Gentile & Associates, the law firm the that the Marine Retailers Association of America and a committee of Genmar dealers have engaged to represent them in advocating the best interests of Genmar dealers, will conduct a Webinar, to discuss in detail the unique issues that may arise in the Genmar Bankruptcy proceeding, according to a letter from MRAA President Phil Keeter sent to “all Genmar Dealers/Members.”

The Webinar is scheduled for Wednesday, July 8, at 3 p.m. EDT.

According to the letter, some of the topics of the Webinar will include, possible termination of dealer agreements by Genmar and subsequent issues that might arise from that; Genmar’s decree that certain dealers agree to the amendment of their existing dealer agreement or face the termination of such existing dealer agreement; the negotiation of the terms of any such amended dealer agreement as Genmar may insist upon onerous increased inventory/purchase requirements, increased working capital requirements, and increased facility investments by dealers; modifications to warranty obligations; and denial, delay or limitations in the payment of warranty, incentive and other payments to dealers.

In addition, Keeter writes, the MRAA has received many calls seeking information concerning the Genmar bankruptcy and the Committee, and those and questions will be addressed during the Webinar. Some of those common questions include: If we do not get enough participants, will I get my money back?; Will I have to pay more than the initial $1,000 fee; Will my dealership name be listed on any document; Is my dealership’s participation confidential?; Do Genmar dealerships that do not participate share in the benefits obtained by the Committee?; And who will keep me updated?
