Freedom Boat Club Lake Norman earns national honors for 2013

VENICE, Fla. – The Lake Norman, N.C., location of the Freedom Boat Club earned national honors at the company’s recent annual meeting in Duck Key, Fla.

After beginning operations only eight months ago, FBC’s Lake Norman franchise, located at the WaterStreet Seaport Marina in Cornelius, has been designated “Rookie of the Year” for its exceptional efforts in 2013.

“Freedom Boat Club Lake Norman has succeeded on many levels,” said John Giglio, CEO of FBC. “We are thrilled to have this location as part of our expanding network. Lake Norman not only exceeded expectations for memberships sold in 2013 but also received high grades for customer service, community involvement and faithful adherence to our FBC model of excellence.”

Freedom Boat Club, the nation’s largest and oldest boating club, has 75 franchises in 15 states. Perry Weir and son, Jeff Weir, own and operate the Lake Weir franchise, which opened in May 2013 with a fleet of six boats. The FBC of Lake Norman is conveniently located just west of I-77 (exit 28 or 25) at the Waterstreet Seaport.

“We managed to steadily bring in members and stay busy despite an unusually cool and wet summer,” said Jeff Weir. “It is our expectation that we will continue to add new members. We are adding four more boats to our fleet for the 2014 season.”

The Freedom Boat Club, which began in 1989 in Sarasota, has experienced a steady growth in membership and franchise locations based on its model of offering affordable, hassle-free boating. Members not only have a choice of multiple boats at each location but avoid the typical frustrations associated with boat ownership: maintenance, repair, storage, cleaning, towing trailers, etc.

“We know this is a winning concept,” Jeff Weir said. “People love boating but not necessarily all the expensive, time-consuming chores that go along with it. Being a member of Freedom Boat Club means leaving the hassles to us.

“We believe the key to our success has been customer satisfaction. We will do everything in our power to create the perfect day on the lake for our members. We know that was a big factor in our being named Rookie of the Year for the Freedom Boat Club. We feel honored.”
