Solar yacht pulls into Hong Kong
HONG KONG — The solar-powered yacht “PlanetSolar” has reached Hong Kong in its global circumnavigation. The yacht started in Monaco almost 11 months ago.
The yacht has 537 square meters of solar panels on the top deck and the yacht’s total height is 6.1 meters and the base is 23 meters. It is moving at about 8.6 mph, and the goal of the trip is “conserving our planet by promoting solar energy, energy efficiency and eco-mobility.”
This was the crew’s second attempt to enter Hong Kong, via Manila
“Due to persistent rains from the monsoons, we were forced to turn around the first time. This is why we are doubly excited to anchor in Hong Kong,” crew reporter Tobias Wülser wrote on the ship’s log.
