Harley-Davidson cutbacks could hurt Mercury Marine

MILWAUKEE, Wis. — Cutbacks by Harley Davidson mean Mercury Marine will no longer be doing casting work for its fellow Wisconsin-based manufacturer, according to a report from WBAY-TV in Green Bay.

Mercury officials told the station as many as 80 to 100 Wisconsin jobs will be affected by the changes, but they believe the anticipated number of retirements and consolidation plans should offset most or all of the effects.

Worldwide retail sales of new Harley-Davidson motorcycles declined 21.3 percent in the most recent quarter, and the company has announced plans to discontinue its Buell motorcycle line and sell off its MV Agusta brand.
