Defender’s sales continue to grow

WATERFORD, Conn. – Discount marine supplier Defender Industries’ third quarter sales increased 20.2 percent, compared to the same period of 2006, the company reported in a recent statement.

Defender also reported that 2007 year-to-date sales through Sept. 30 increased 14.5 percent over record 2006 levels.

“Defender’s primary sales channels have shown increases in every region of the country, with e-commerce posting the largest gain, followed closely by retail and catalog sales,” said Executive Director Al Knupp. “Almost all of Defender’s 20 major product categories have shown at least double digit increases in 2007. Even electronics sales are up.”

Knupp also said the company’s total sales have growth 80 percent over the last five years.

“We’re continually strengthening our relationships with the top marine manufacturers and suppliers in the industry and honing our purchases to increase order fill rates without disproportionate increases in inventory,” he commented. “By working smarter and more efficiently, our margins also continue to increase, as they have steadily over the past five years.”

Founded in 1938 in New York, Defender Industries is a family-owned marine outfitter and supplier via catalog, the Internet and throughout the Northeastern U.S. at the Defender Warehouse Outlet Store located at its headquarters in Waterford, Conn.
