IMI announces October study tour marinas

WARREN, R.I. — The International Marina Institute (IMI), a training subsidiary of the Association of Marina Industries (AMI), will visit six facilities during its 5th annual Southeast Florida Marina Study Tour Oct. 26–27, 2011.

The tour, based this year at the Sheraton Suites Cypress Creek in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., occurs immediately after the closing of IMI’s fall conference, “Increasing Marina Profits in the New Economy: From Surviving to Thriving,” scheduled for Oct. 23–25, 2011.

This year’s tour will stop at Lighthouse Point Yacht Club in Lighthouse Point, Rybovich Superyacht Marina in West Palm Beach, Harbour Towne Marina in Dania, Marina Bay in Fort Lauderdale, Roscioli Yachting Center in Fort Lauderdale, and Sunset Harbour Yacht Club & Marina in Miami Beach.

The Study Tour is a two-day mobile training course that takes participants on exclusive tours of marinas to provide an in-depth look at the operations of different types of facilities in South Florida. At the end of each day, attendees participate in a facilitated roundtable discussion and SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats) analysis of each marina before heading to a networking dinner.

“We are pleased to include such a wide range of facilities that differ in type of slips, size of operation, variety of amenities, and more,” Tim Timpson, CMM, host of the tour, says. “It is important to show participants various marinas so they gain a maximum wealth of experience and can bring important knowledge back to their own establishments.”
