Mass. engine dealer wins enterprise award

WAREHAM, Mass. — Windward Power Systems, which specializes in marine diesel sales, service and parts, recently received the U.S. Small Business Administration’s 2011 Massachusetts Micro-Enterprise Award.

The company was nominated by the Southeastern Economic Development Corporation (SEED Corp.), which provided the father-and-son owners, Jim and Nathan Tynan, with startup funding. The company has been in business since 2006.

“Nathan and Jim Tynan are a phenomenal example of the entrepreneurial spirit at work, having survived both economic and personal challenges over the past several years,” said Bob Nelson, Massachusetts SBA District Director, to the publication South Coast Today. “It’s the combination of the Tynans’ business acumen and the financial and business assistance obtained through the SEED SBA micro loan program that jump-started this business in its early stages, nearly tripling its sales in the first five years of operations.”
