Event to mark start of boat season in San Francisco Bay

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — The Pacific Inter-Club Yacht Association will host a special event to mark the official start of boating season in the San Francisco Bay.

The even will take place on May 1, and activities such as a Blessing of the Fleet and a decorated boat parade will take place throughout the day.

The parade will feature more than 120 historic workboats, fireboats, towboats, classic and contemporary craft decorated to the theme. There will be both power and sail boats competing for best decoration honors. Six trophies – including the BoatUS Ward Cleaveland Memorial Trophy for the “best overall decorated boat” – will be given as well as prize bags for the participants with items such as dining certificates, event tickets, wine, clothing, art work, boat gear, books, travel and sailing excursions all donated by various businesses and yacht clubs.

The theme of this year’s event is “Giants of the Bay.” BoatUS is the primary sponsor.
