International Institute of Marine Surveying celebrates 25 years with Silver Jubilee Awards

LONDON – The International Institute of Marine Surveying (IIMS) will celebrate its 25th anniversary and silver jubilee in 2016.

As part of its yearlong celebrations, the IIMS announces the launch of its Silver Jubilee Awards, which will recognize excellence in marine surveying throughout the world in nine categories.

The awards will be presented at a special luncheon on Aug. 31, 2016, as part of the IIMS 25th Anniversary Conference on Aug. 31-Sept. 1 at a central London location. Nominations for the awards, which are open to IIMS members, are now open and close on June 30.

Since its inception in 1991, the institute has grown to a membership of over 1,000 marine surveyors in over 90 countries.

The key aims of the institute are to provide education and training for its members, to provide news and information – ensuring best practice is applied – and to represent the profession to worldwide governments and maritime authorities.

“The IIMS has come a long way in the past 25 years. Marine surveying remains a vibrant and integral part of the maritime world and I am delighted to announce the new Silver Jubilee Awards, which will represent excellence in the profession,” said Mike Schwarz, IIMS CEO. “However it is important we do not lose sight of our responsibility to ensure the competency levels of members are maintained to the highest level, especially given the implementation of new technologies they are faced with.”

“We remain as committed as ever to educate and train our existing members as well as developing the next generation of surveyors too,” he added.
