BoatUS now part of GEICO

After 8 years as part of Berkshire Hathaway-owned National Indemnity Company, BoatUS is now part of GEICO, another Berkshire Hathaway company.

Founder Richard Schwartz, who passed away earlier this year, sold BoatUS to the National Indemnity Company in 2007.

BoatUS remains dedicated to its role as the nation’s leading advocate and organization for boaters, fighting for their rights, and helping them enjoy their time on the water by providing the best services as well as savings for boat owners, the company said in a statement.
“We will continue to advocate for this country’s recreational boat owners and remain committed to our bedrock goal of making every part of boat ownership hassle free,” said BoatUS President Margaret Podlich.

BoatUS annual membership dues and all on water and roadside towing plans remain the same. The BoatUS Foundation for Boating Safety and Clean Water, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that is funded primarily through donations from BoatUS members, continues to provide leadership on national boating safety and clean water issues, the company said.
