Lightspeed: Boat dealer same-store sales up 18.2% in November

Same-store sales surged in November, increasing more than 18 percent from 2013 for marine dealers using Lightspeed by CDK Global Recreation, the company reported this week. It was the 10th straight month of same-store sales gains.

All components of sales were up for the month, but the increase was led by unit sales, which were up 15.4 percent from November 2013. That was a marked improvement from October, when unit sales were down a whopping 26.5 percent from October 2013. October had ended seven straight months of year-over-year unit sales gains.

Service revenue was up 7.1 percent for November compared to 2013, ahead of October’s 5.3 percent increase. Service revenue has been up for three straight months and seven of the last eight, according to CDK.

Parts revenue increased 5.9 percent from 2013, just slightly improving on October’s 5.8 percent gain. It was the eighth month in a row of parts revenue growth.

With the impressive year-over-year numbers for November, it’s worth noting that November 2013 appears to have been a particularly weak month, as ADP (now CDK) reported a 6.3 percent decline in same-store sales for the month compared to November 2012, with all categories down that month: unit sales down 13.3 percent, service revenue down 4 percent and parts down 4.9 percent.
