In-Depth: Three Genmar executives laid off

MINNEAPOLIS – Boating building giant Genmar Holdings LLC has laid off three executives as part of an effort to “put the marketing back into the companies,” said Genmar Chairman Irwin L. Jacobs in an interview yesterday.

The three executives laid off on Friday were George Sullivan, senior vice president of marketing, Jim Host, marketing services manager, and John Ellis, offsite sales manager.

While Jacobs said there are still company-wide initiatives in place, under Genmar’s new philosophy the individual brands will be allowed to conduct “more marketing without corporate involvement.”

“We don’t want to lose that entrepreneurialism in our businesses,” he explained. “We want our dealers to be doing more with the companies directly.”

Remaining with Genmar are Don Woods, vice president of dealer development, and Robert Blake, director of promotions.
