Discover Boating tour gets more aggressive

CHICAGO, Ill. – The Discover Boating Mobile Marketing Tour is setting a more aggressive agenda for 2004 with the goal of reaching more than 500,000 people, the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) reported in a statement today.

During its inaugural campaign in 2003, the NMMA and Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation (RBFF) mobile marketing tour reached nearly 300,000 people.

An informational meeting on these developments will be held at the Miami International Boat Show on Thursday, February 12 from 2-3 pm in room A-103 in the Convention Center.

“This year, the tour has been expanded and enhanced,” said Discover Boating director Steve Tadd. “The 2004 version of Discover Boating’s Mobile Marketing tour features an Underwater Walkway and a Splash Theater. Participants can also catch a Marlin on the popular fishing simulator and talk to local experts about boating and fishing resources in their area and try out sponsors’ products.”

Tadd also explained that as people exit the truck, Discover Boating staff are going to talk with them one-on-one to gauge their interest in taking the next steps to becoming boaters and anglers.

“If they are qualified prospects, they can register for test drives with local dealers, and signing up for fishing clinics in their area,” said Tadd.

The tour schedule is in the process of being developed, but the truck is already scheduled to return to the 2004 Minnesota State Fair and Kentucky State Fair. The popularity of these events last year has encouraged the organizers to bring the Discover Boating Mobile Marketing Tour to as many state fairs and water festivals as possible, according to NMMA.

The association also said it’s looking for partners, reminding the industry that the earlier companies commit, the greater their exposure.

“This is an opportunity for businesses in the marine industry to directly reach hundreds of thousands of individuals with their messages,” said NMMA Integrated Marketing director John Marcinek.
