Naples to get marina compliance officer?

NAPLES, Fla. – A special condition has been placed on a new submerged land lease given to Basil Street Partners LLC, which is turning the former Boat Haven marina into a condominium and yacht club, reported Naples News in an article today.

The condition is that Basil Street Partners provide $45,000 to the city of Naples or to Collier County to go toward hiring a compliance officer to review marine construction projects. The officer’s responsibilities would include notifying the Department of Environmental Protection of violations of its permits and helping marina operators ensure their operations are “environmentally sensitive,” according to the newspaper.

Naples Bay has a particular need for such a position because it has “the greatest density of marinas of any waterbody in the DEP’s south region,” the newspaper reported.

Basil Street Partners is being asked to fund the position after it was found to have committed two violations at the former Boat Haven marina site.
