Info-Link: Boat sales up 5 percent in July

Boat sales grew by about 5 percent in July, according to the latest Info-Link Bellwether report.

The Bellwether report tracks sales of powerboats across the country based on new U.S. boat registrations on a rolling 12-month basis. Bellwether states are geographically dispersed states representing roughly half of the US boat market (varies by market segment and time of year).

Boat sales in July were slightly higher than in June, when boat sales were up just over 4 percent. However, the growth rate has been mostly declining since its peak of 11 percent in 2016.

Sportfish boats, personal watercraft and tow boats all led the way in July, with sales up about 7 percent over the previous year in all three categories.

Outboard sales were up 6 percent for the period, slightly up from June’s growth. The sterndrive/jet segment was the only category to decline, with sales down almost 5 percent from last year.
