Weekly 5: Powerboat registrations up 6.1 percent

1. NMMA: Powerboat registrations up 6.1 percent

NMMA’s New Powerboat Registrations Report has been updated through February 2017, and advance data show new powerboat registrations were up 6.1 percent year over year for the rolling twelve-month period through February. The tow boat, pontoon, saltwater fishing boat and personal watercraft segments experienced the highest rates of growth, up 10.1 percent, 9.6 percent, 8.5 percent and 7.2 percent, respectively.

2. Senate bill would extend, reform biodiesel credit

The American Renewable Fuel and Job Creation Act of 2017 has been introduced by U.S. Sens. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, and Maria Cantwell, D-Washington, Biodiesel Magazine reports.

The bipartisan bill, which has 14 other co-sponsors, would renew the $1-per-gallon biodiesel tax credit for three years and reform it from a blenders incentive to a domestic producers tax credit.

3. It’s National Small Business Week

This week is National Small Business Week and the Small Business Administration and other groups have plenty of events, webinars and other programs planned.

4. Arizona proposes boating law changes

The Arizona Game and Fish Commission recently approved several boating and watercraft regulation changes, Sonoran News reports.

The changes will be reviewed by the Governor’s Regulatory Review Council in June and would take effect in August if approved.

The rule changes would increase several boating fees, as well as making other rule changes, such as requiring wakesurfers to wear a PFD.
