1. NMMA urges industry to sign Trump ethanol petition

The deadline is Tuesday to sign a Boating United petition to be delivered to President Trump, urging him to take action to reform the Renewable Fuel Standard.

2. Judge says Florida’s New River bridge can close

Despite the objection of marine businesses in the area, U.S. District Judge William P. Dimitrouleas ruled Friday that All Aboard Florida can lock the New River railway bridge in the down position from Feb. 11 to Feb. 23 while it makes repairs in preparation for new high-speed rail passenger train service, WPLG reported.

The judge ruled that although there would be potential loss of revenue for the businesses, the public “would not be best served by large-scale disruptions in freight deliveries to South Florida, nor would the interests of the public be best served by a delay in the implementation” of the rail service.

3. Feds lift wake restrictions at Havasu National Wildlife Refuge

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced Thursday that it will lift wake restrictions in the secluded area north of Lake Havasu’s Mesquite Bay that was once a favorite spot for water sports enthusiasts, the Havasu News-Herald reported.

4. Judges named for Miami innovation awards

NMMA and Boating Writers International have announced the panel of judges who will evaluate 63 product entries across 23 boating categories for the 2017 Miami International Boat Show Innovation Awards being presented during the show’s Innovation Breakfast on February 17.

The Innovation Awards judges’ committee is comprised of seven BWI members who perform product testing throughout the year and have specific expertise in marine products and equipment. The judges’ committee is chaired by Zuzana Prochazka and co-chaired by Alan Wendt. The judges include Nigel Calder, Alan Jones, Tim Murphy, Bill Pike and Lenny Rudow.
