1. Idaho boat builder indicted on fraud charges
Christopher Bohnenkamp, former owner of Bohnenkamp’s Whitewater Customs, Inc. and Treasure Valley Marine, Inc., was indicted last week by a federal grand jury in Boise for wire fraud and bank fraud, KIVI TV reported.
Bohnenkamp was arrested in Buffalo, N.Y.
Prosecutors that Bohnenkamp accepted millions of dollars in payment for custom boats and trailers from 2012 to 2014, but never built or delivered them.
2. Miami-Dade County Parks partners with Boatsetter
Peer-to-peer boat rental company Boatsetter has partnered with the Bill Bird Marina to offer marina users another option for boats, the South Florida Times reported.
“Blueways and waterways are an extension of our park system and as like the rest of our parks we want everyone to be able to have access to enjoy it,” Miami-Dade Parks Director Jack Kardys told the site. “Our partnership with Boatsetter will help us to fulfill our mission to make boating more accessible and more affordable.”
3. NMMA hosting tax ‘nexus’ webinar
The National Marine Manufacturers Association is holding a webinar on Tuesday, September 27, on how to avoid costly state tax penalties. State tax experts will explain when businesses owe taxes outside their home state and what can be done to minimize back taxes, fines and interest should they be out of compliance. Presenters include David Dickerson, VP of State Government Relations, Richard Cram, Director, National Nexus Program for the Multistate Tax Commission, and Ferdinand S. Hogroian, Senior Tax & Legislative Counsel for the Council On State Taxation.

4. FBI: Tape over your webcam
It may seem basic, but putting a piece of tape over your webcam is an important part of cybersecurity, the FBI director said recently.
“There’s some sensible things you should be doing and that’s one of them,” Comey said during the Center for Strategic and International Studies conference, Entrepreneur reported. “You go into any government office and we all have the little camera things that sit on top of the screen. They all have a little lid that closes down on them. You do that so that people who don’t have authority don’t look at you. I think that’s a good thing.”
