Boat sales growth continues in February

Boat sales were up for the 12 months ending in February, with ski boats and PWC leading the way, according to the latest Info-Link Bellwether report.

The Bellwether report tracks sales of powerboats across the country based on new U.S. boat registrations on a rolling 12-month basis. Bellwether states are geographically dispersed states representing roughly half of the US boat market (varies by market segment and time of year).

Sales were up across all segments for the 12 months ending in February, clocking in at about 7 percent growth year-over-year. PWC sales once again lead the way, posting increases of more than 15 percent for the period. The ski boat segment was also up nearly 15 percent.

The sportfish segment also grew, but was below 10 percent year-over-year growth for the second month in a row — the first time that has happened since 2012.

The overall outboard segment was up about 7 percent for the 12-month period, while the jet/sterndrive segment increased about 2 percent, the sixth-straight month of growth, albeit slow, for the category.
