1. Environmentalists claim Yachts Miami Beach left mess from docks
The temporary docks used by Yachts Miami Beach resulted in plastic foam being left in the water, local environmentalists told the Miami New Times.
Yachts Miami Beach is not affiliated with the Miami International Boat Show, which moved to Miami Marine Stadium Park & Basin this year.
Ahead of this year’s Miami International Boat Show, opponents had raised concerns over the temporary docks being used on Virginia Key because of past unaffiliated boat shows. However, show organizers used encapsulated foam docks, designed to keep the foam from breaking off and getting in the water at this year’s MIBS.
2. Florida bill would make it tougher for police to stop, inspect boats
Law enforcement in Florida would “reasonable suspicion” to stop and inspect boats in the state under a bill in the state House if the vessels display state safety stickers, the Palm Beach Post reported.
Bill sponsor Ritch Workman, R-Melbourne, said he made the proposal after boaters in his community complained of being pulled over “almost every time they go out.”
Officers would still be able to pull over boats when there is reasonable suspicion or probable cause that violations have occurred.
3. Palm Beach boat show growing for 2016
The Palm Beach International Boat Show will add more in-water space this year, with 30 more slips for yachts up to 280 feet, the Sun Sentinel reported.
The annual boating event will feature more than $1 billion worth of yachts, boats and accessories, according to Show Management, the event’s producer and manager.
