1. NMMA: Powerboat shipments up 1.8 percent
Wholesale shipments of traditional powerboats were up 1.8 percent through October for the National Marine Manufacturers Association’s control group of manufacturers (representing 68 percent of the market) with growth in the fiberglass outboard boat and inboard boat segments offsetting declines in other categories, NMMA reported. Corresponding dollars were up 8.7 percent. Personal watercraft shipments were up 16.9 percent YOY through October.
2. Princess Yachts cutting 350 jobs
U.K.-based Princess Yachts will be eliminating 350 jobs, the Plymouth Herald reported.
The company said it is still in a strong position and its core business is strong. Competitor Fairline Boats also recently went into receivership (equivalent to bankruptcy in the U.S.). On the other hand, Sunseeker, which had multiple rounds of layoffs in recent years, announced last week it would be adding 225 manufacturing jobs.
