1. New York Boat Show kicks off this week

The 2016 boat show season kicks in to high gear this week, as the New York Boat Show starts Wednesday at the Javits Center in New York City.

The show runs Wednesday through Sunday. The 2015 show drew 40,000 visitors and had 275 exhibitors, according to show organizers.

2. Discover Boating reports 2015 successes

Discover Boating had a successful 2015, driving more traffic, creating new promos and engaging in more outreach, the effort reported in its 2015 wrap-up.

Among the highlights for the year was the 2.9 million visits to participating boat manufacturer websites, an increase of 66% over 2014.

3. Minnesota boat fatalities at 10-year high

With warm weather and a long boating season also came the most boating deaths since 2005 for the state of Minnesota, the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reported.

There were 18 boating-related deaths in the state in 2015, the most since 23 in 2005.

4. SBA webinar on disaster preparedness

Agility Recovery and the U.S. Small Business Administration will host a free webinar on Tuesday, Jan. 12,that will take a look at how small businesses handled disaster-related losses in 2015, lessons learned, and the resulting best practices.

5. Manufacturing activity drops to lowest level since 2009

The stock market got off to a rocky start for the year as manufacturing slumped in December to its lowest level since 2009, according to the Institute for Supply Management’s manufacturing index.
