1. Miami Beach unveils plans for convention center remodel

With a goal of completing construction by December 2017, Miami Beach city officials plan to approve final plans and budget in October, the Miami Herald reported.

The planned remodel includes a new facade, upgraded technology, more meeting space, a new hotel and a new park.

Construction was planned to start earlier this year, but Miami Beach planning officials said they still expect to be able to hit the December 2017 deadline.

2. FLIBS plans larger job fair for 2015

The Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show will feature a job fair with more than 200 jobs available, growing in its second year, organizers said.

More than 400 people attended last year’s inaugural fair.

3. Consumer sentiment slips

The preliminary reading of consumer sentiment from the University of Michigan was 85.7, down from 91.9 in August.

“The decline in optimism narrowed in early September from late August as consumers grew somewhat more confident that the underlying strength in the domestic economy would insure a continued expansion,” said chief economist Richard Curtin. “The twin strengths of higher employment and lower prices softened the impact from the losses in household wealth.”

4. NMMA: Outboard shipments up in U.S., Canada

Wholesale shipments of outboard engines were up 3.7 percent in the U.S. and 10.9 percent in Canada, year over year, for the 12 months ending in August, NMMA reported.
