1. Industry unhappy with EPA ethanol reversal

Last fall, the marine industry won an apparent victory when the EPA announced plans to lower ethanol levels in the nation’s fuel supply.

That apparent victory ended up being a false one, though, as the EPA announced Friday that it would not propose those lower levels for 2014 and pushed the decision to 2015.

Both the National Marine Manufacturers Association and BoatUS have come out against the decision, which is being applauded by ethanol proponents.

2. Miami boat show move still planned

The Miami International Boat Show is still moving forward with plans to move the show during renovation of the Miami Beach Convention Center.

That’s despite the collapse of a deal between the city of Miami and a nonprofit group to restore the Miami Marine Stadium.  The centerpiece of the original plan – announced just two weeks ago — was the move of show there in 2016, while the convention center was undergoing work.

NMMA continues to work directly with the city of Miami to plan for the show’s future at the site, the association said.

3. Florida boating industry continues to surge

Dealers and manufacturers in Florida are reporting great sales and are hiring new employees to keep up with demand, The Daytona Beach News-Journal reports.

4. New boat show launching in Wichita

Organizers have announced that the Wichita Sport Show will start in 2015, as organizers of the 60-year-old Kansas Sports, Boat and Travel Show announce it will be taking at least a year off.

5. Answering Affordable Care Act questions

Still confused about how the Affordable Care Act (aka Obamacare) and how it applies to your business? The New York Times continues its “Hard Questions” series on the ACA for small businesses, which might help clear up some of the confusion.
