1. Upstate New York boat show sets record
Attendance at the Great Upstate Boat Show was up 28 percent this year and sales were up 44 percent, the Eastern New York Marine Trades Association reported. Last year, attendance increased 24 percent.
2. Anti-anchoring legislation defeated in Florida
Legislation that would have made it difficult to have a consistent statewide approach to anchoring laws has been defeated after the industry worked against it, BoatUS reported.
The amendments would have “lead to a patchwork quilt of anchoring restrictions and exposed boaters and legitimate cruisers to citations and fines,” the association said.
3. Minimum wage increase blocked
A federal minimum wage increase supported by Democrats but opposed by Republicans failed to garner the necessary support in the U.S. Senate.
Democrat leadership promised to reintroduce the proposal, and several states are considering or have already passed minimum wage increases.
