Snider and Kean announced as MBIA’s 2010 Hall of Fame inductees

LIVONIA, Mich. — Van W. Snider, Jr., retired president of Michigan Boating Industries Association, and John Kean, retired operator of Kean’s Marina in Detroit, were inducted into the MBIA Hall of Fame for the 2010 year, according to a recent release from MBIA.

“John has made great contributions to the MBIA and our industry during his time on the Board and while operating Kean’s Marina,” said MBIA President, John Ropp, in the release. “We owe a great deal of gratitude to John for his leadership skills, his understanding of the industry, and his willingness to share his expertise with all of us.”

Snider was recognized for his leadership and accomplishments while serving 20 years as the president of MBIA. During this time, he expanded member benefits, developed important relationships and programs, and increased the number of boat shows produced from one show to three, which include the Detroit Boat Show, Spring Boating Expo in Novi, Mich., and the Boating & Outdoor Festival in Harrison Township, Mich.

“Whether for monitoring or creating legislation, growing the industry or strengthening the MBIA’s foundation with new programs, Van’s time and efforts over the past 20 years at the MBIA have resulted in the creation of a solid and secure path on which the MBIA can further its journey to continued improvement and continued service for its members and industry,” said Ropp. “He is truly worthy of recognition in the MBIA’s Hall of Fame.”

Snider and Kean were honored at a presentation held at the Recreational Boating Educational Conference on Dec. 2 at the H Hotel in Midland.
