AMI grants Richard Dunn its highest award

WARREN, R.I. — The Association of Marina Industries (AMI) recently presented its highest honor, the Bob Giesler Award, to Richard Dunn, former president of the Marina Recreation Association (MRA) and owner of RiverPoint Landing Marina and Resort in Stockton, Calif.

Dunn was honored at AMI’s annual International Marina & Boatyard Conference (IMBC) in Tampa, Fla.

“Richard’s commitment to the marina industry is evident through his involvement over the years with MOAA, IMI, AMI, and MRA,” Jim Frye, president and chair of AMI, said in a release. “He was an integral part of the highly successful MOAA/IMI merger. We wanted to thank him and acknowledge him for his dedication and commitment to our industry.”

Dunn is the former vice-president of International Marina Institute (IMI) and has been an active member of MRA since 1990, serving on the MRA’s board of directors and as president of the California-based association. He remains on the legislative committee for both MRA and AMI.

The award was created in 1994 and named for Bob Giesler, the first president of the Marina Operators Association of America (MOAA), which later merged with IMI to become AMI. It recognizes an individual’s significant contributions to AMI’s success.

“AMI doesn’t present this award annually,” Frye said in the release. “The board of directors gives serious thought into whether someone should receive AMI’s highest recognition.”
