MTA/NJ awards 2009 scholarships

MANASQUAN, N.J. — For the fourth year, the Marine Trades Association of New Jersey awarded education scholarships to students pursuing careers in the marine industry, the group reported in a recent release.

The $3,000 MTA/NJ scholarship was awarded to Dylan Giombetti. Giombetti plans to pursue a degree in business management and eventually join his family’s marina business, according to the release. This year, the MTA/NJ was able to double the amount of the scholarship thanks in part to a $1,500 scholarship award from the Marine Retailers Association of America Education Foundation.

In addition, the Automotive Training Center in Warminster, Penn., and Pennco Tech School in Blackwood, N.J., sponsored full scholarships to their Marine Technician Programs. The recipient of the Automotive Training Center scholarship was William J. Buff, V, who plans to pursue a career as a marine technician. The recipient of the Pennco Tech scholarship was George Kourmouzis, who also looks to become a marine technician.

The MTA/NJ also awarded two outstanding student awards for the purchase of tools for the trade, which went to Edward Chaplauske from the Ocean County Vocational School and William Buff from the Monmouth County Vocational School.

“All of these young men have demonstrated their dedication to the future of the marine trades industry by incorporating studies of this field into their high school academics.” Melissa Danko, MTA/NJ Executive Director, said in the release. “We congratulate them all for their efforts and wish them the best of luck in their future endeavors.”
