George Harris selected as NMTA’s next president

SEATTLE, Wash. — The Northwest Marine and Trade Association reported this week that George Harris, NMTA’s Boat Show Director and Vice President since 1999, will be named the industry group’s next president when current president Michael Campbell retires from NMTA on July 1.

According to the NMTA, Harris was approved unanimously at the Board of Trustees meeting this week and was selected from a group of four finalists out of nearly 60 applicants for the position.

“George Harris has shown over the past 10 years that he is committed to the Northwest Marine Trade Association,” said Dwight Jones, Board of Trustees chairman. “He has treated the membership with honesty and fairness and he truly understands the challenges that face our industry.”

Harris came to the NMTA in the summer of 1999 after 8 years as a product and sales manager for Connelly Skis. He is a lifetime boating enthusiast and a graduate of Michigan State University.

Campbell became president of NMTA in October of 1999 and helped form the Seattle Boat Show into the largest on the west coast. He is responsible for developing the most comprehensive regional Grow Boating program in the country, and eliminating association debt of nearly $1 million.

“Michael Campbell has taken our association to a new level,” said Jones. “The many successes that have been achieved during his tenure are a testament to his hard work and visionary leadership.”

According to NMTA, Campbell’s departure at the end of June has been planned for more than a year.
