Two new co-chairs appointed to MMTA boating caucus
MILTON, Mass. — The man who founded the Massachusetts Marine Trades Association’s Legislative Boating Caucus has finished his term as chairman, and two new co-chairs have been selected to take his place.
State Rep. Anthony Verga founded the caucus in 2004 to help protect small waterfront and inland marine businesses in Massachusetts, according to a recent MMTA statement announcing the leadership change.
Verga’s position will be shared by State Rep. Paul Kujawski and State Sen. Michael Morrissey. In 2007, Sen. Morrissey and Rep. Kujawski each received a Legislator of the Year Award from the MMTA.
“As I complete my tenure as Caucus Chair, I am confident that Senator Morrissey and Representative Kujawski will continue a tradition of an active and engaged membership that works cooperatively and completely,” Rep. Verga said.
During his tenure as caucus chairman, Rep. Verga was lead sponsor of “An Act Relative to Abandoned Vessels,” which was signed into law in 2008. The act streamlined the process for marinas and boatyards to lawfully dispose of derelict vessels abandoned on their property. In 2005, the “Gate Show Bill,” sponsored by Rep. Kujawski and supported by Rep. Verga and Sen. Morrissey, opened the taxpayer-funded Boston Convention & Exhibition Center to gate shows, including the annual New England Boat Show.
“It will be an honor to co-chair a caucus that has had a profound effect in bettering the access, interests and lives of those navigating the waters of Massachusetts. My sincere thanks and admiration are extended to Chairman Verga for a fabulous job,” Rep. Kujawski said.
Established in 1964, the Massachusetts Marine Trades Association is the statewide, representative body for over 1,200 marine trades businesses.
