MRAA presents awards at annual convention

LAS VEGAS, Nev. — During its annual convention and expo, the Marine Retailers Association of America presented its most prestigious award, the Irv Rosenthal Award, to Gary Briggs of Wayzata Marine in Wayzata, Minn.

In a statement, the MRAA said the award is presented annually to someone in the industry who fosters the mission and goals of MRAA, and noted that Briggs has given 30 years of service to the organization.

Three other awards were also given out during a luncheon on Nov. 18.

The Bill Ferguson Award, which honors a local, state or regional MTA that exhibits outstanding support for its membership, went to the Marine Industries Association of South Florida. Steve Baum, a board member of the MIASF, was on hand to accept the award.

The Supplier of the Year Award honors a supplier or manufacturer that provides extra support to the MRAA. Paul Norman and Byron Spencer of the Norman Spencer Agency, Inc., took home the award this year. For 20 years, the agency has worked with the MRAA to provide business insurance services for dealers.

The final award presented was the Jerry Martin Journalism Award. Martin’s passion was to see dealers receive proper status in the recreational boating industry, according to the MRAA, and the award is given in that spirit. This year’s honors went to Boat & Motor Dealer Magazine, which is celebrating 50 years of providing news featuring marine dealers.
