President of Nordic Tugs dies following motorcycle accident

BURLINGTON, Wash. — Jim Cress, president and CEO of the Washington-based trawler manufacturer Nordic Tugs, Inc., died Oct. 18 from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. He was 62.

Cress was born May 13, 1946, in Chicago. He joined Nordic Tugs in 1989 as a sales manager, then left four years later to start SkipperCress Yacht Sales, which went on to become Nordic Tugs’ largest dealership. In 1996, Cress and a small group of investors decided to purchase Nordic Tugs, and he has served as the company’s president and CEO for a majority of the years since.

According to Nordic Tug, Cress enjoyed boating, motorcycles and sprint cars, but his main passion was family. He is survived by his wife Stephanie; his sons Jeff, Allen and Steven; and three grandchildren.

A memorial service is scheduled for Oct. 25, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at Christ the King Community Church in Mount Vernon, Wash.
