Founding editor of BoatU.S. Magazine moves on

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – Michael Sciulla, founding editor of BoatU.S. Magazine, stepped down from his role as editor and publisher this week, according to the magazine. He will continue to contribute as an editor-at-large through 2009.

Sciulla will join the American Recreation Coalition as a senior fellow to work on recreational policy issues and a National Geographic Society book on scenic waterways, reported BoatU.S.

During his career, Sciulla transformed BoatU.S. Magazine from an 8-page association newsletter into a respected magazine with a circulation of more than 650,000. The magazine won numerous awards during his tenure as editor.

Sciulla also served as director of lobbying efforts for the BoatU.S., the magazine’s parent association, from 1980 to 2006. He testified more than 30 times before various Congressional committees and served as the association’s chief media spokesman on public policy issues.

BoatU.S. Founder and Chairman Richard Schwartz said, “I will greatly miss Mike’s presence and cannot thank him enough for his dedication, tenacity and foresight throughout all of these years.”

Former Cruising World editor Bernadette Bernon has been appointed editor on an interim basis.
