Dredge Harbor Yacht Basin founder passes away

DELRAN, N.J. – William R. Parsons Sr., founder of Dredge Harbor Yacht Basin, died July 21, the company reported in a recent statement. He was 90.

Parsons founded Dredge Harbor Yacht Basin in Delran, N.J., along with his brother, Herbert Parsons, in 1939. He was a past member of the Marine Retailers Association of America, Marine Trades Association of New Jersey and State of New Jersey Tidelands Resource Council. He received many awards for excellence during his lifetime and dedicated his life to the marine industry, the company stated.

According to daughter Tammy P. Savidge, Parsons’ talent, vision and foresight were greatly responsible for Dredge Harbor becoming a successful 110-acre full-service marina and boat dealership. He was very proud of this accomplishment and loved the marina, but to Bill, she said, his greatest love was his family — his wife, two children and four grandchildren.

Tammy Parsons Savidge and Parsons’ son, William R. Parsons Jr., now own and operate Dredge Harbor and they said they will continue to build his legacy.
