AMI names 2008 National Marina Day Chair

WARREN, R.I. – Michael Shanley, CMM, vice president of marina operations of Watermark Marinas, has been named chairman of the 2008 National Marina Day celebration, reported Association of Marina Industries (AMI) Chairman Jim Frye, CMM, in a statement today.

National Marina Day (NMD) is produced by AMI and is an annual nationwide celebration of America’s marinas. The seventh annual National Marina Day will be observed on Saturday, Aug. 9.

“Michael brings a lot of industry experience and has a demonstrated record of excellence and responsibility in the industry through his professional accomplishments,” commented Frye. “As one of the winners of the 2007 National Marina Day Award, we are pleased to have him onboard to serve as this year’s National Marina Day chair.”

A South Florida native, Shanley has been in the boating industry for more than 20 years, with experience in boat manufacturing and sales, yacht management, and marina operations. In his present position at Watermark Marinas, a product offering of Southfork Development Group, Shanley oversees the operations of three East Coast marina facilities, including Watermark Marina of Snake Creek and Watermark Marina of Islamorada in the Florida Keys, as well as Watermark Marina of Wilmington, North Carolina. Shanley earned his Certified Marina Manager (CMM) designation from the Association of Marina Industries in 2006 making Watermark’s newly certified manager just one of two professionals to receive the honor while operating marina facilities in the Florida Keys.

Shanley currently serves on the Marine Industry Association of South Florida’s Government Relations Committee and is actively engaged in efforts to preserve Florida’s dwindling working waterfront, according to AMI.

This year’s National Marina Day campaign will kick off later this spring and will elaborate on the 2008 theme while offering suggestions as to how marinas can join the effort.
