Boating writers elect new directors

WILMETTE, Ill. – Boating Writers International members have elected two new directors and reelected the three officers, the organization said in a statement yesterday.

New to the board, where they will serve three-year terms, are Lisa Knapp, a freelance writer and photographer, and John Page Williams, a conservationist and writer. Officers reelected to one-year terms are writer and editor Kim Kavin, president; editor and author Betsy Frawley Haggerty, 1st vice president; and publisher and editorial director Jim Hendricks, 2nd vice president.

Knapp is associate editor of Wave and International Yachtsman and she is a writer and photographer for Dockwalk, Boat International USA, Soundings Trade Only, Soundings, Marina World and Southern Boating. She is a U.S. Superyacht Association founding member, a Marina Mile 84 Association member and belongs to the Marine Industries Association of South Florida, Florida Outdoor Writers Association and the Society of Professional Journalists.

Williams is a staff member of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, serving as a field educator, program administrator, fundraiser and staff writer. As senior naturalist, he serves as a liaison between the National Park Service, the Conservation Fund and the National Geographic Society to develop the Captain John Smith Chesapeake National Historic (Water) Trail. As a freelancer, Williams serves as an editor-at-large for Chesapeake Bay and Northeast Boating magazines and as a contributing editor for Boating.

Continuing as directors are Immediate Past President Roger Marshall, U.S. editor for The Yacht Report; Michael Sciulla, editor and publisher for BoatU.S. Magazine; Lindsey Johnson, trade communications manager for NMMA; and Zuzana Prochazka, a freelance writer. Greg Proteau, BWI executive director, serves as secretary/treasurer of the board.
