CLEVELAND – At the Cleveland Boat & Waterfront Lifestyle Expo, Lake Erie Marine Trades Association members elected a new board of directors in a meeting with a keynote speech from Thom Dammrich, National Marine Manufacturers Association president, LEMTA said in a statement Thursday.

Bruce Roberts of Harbor North retained his role as chairman and other spots were filled as follows: First Vice Chairman, Bob Faflik of Marinas International; Second Vice Chairman, Bob Ivancic of Ivancic Marine; Secretary, John Clemons of Clemons Boats; Treasurer, Bill Schaeffer of Beaver Park Marina; and new trustee Mike Solberg of Huron Lagoons joined other trustees Jim Armington of Buckeye Sports Center, Dave Gerber of Monroeville Marine, Steve Magyar of Pier 58 Marine, John Sima of Sima Marine and Bob Lieblein of Holiday Harbor.

On the night before the elections, the Lake Erie Safe Boating Council presented its annual Boater of the Year and Sima Group awards.

Two Boater of the Year awards were given out: one to Joe Vanecek of Independence, Ohio, and one to Ken Gray of North Royalton, Ohio. Both were honored for their work during last summer’s North Coast Harbor Boating & Fishing Fest, during which they both took vacation time to help set up and run the event.

John Sima presented the group award, given annually to an organization for outstanding work in youth education, to the North Coast Black Bass Anglers Association. Vice President Bob Davis accepted the award on behalf of the group, which holds monthly summer fishing tournaments and is one of the few predominantly African-American bass fishing associations in the country.

The Ohio Sea Grant College Program named those who had earned Ohio Clean Marina status at the ceremony. Marinas gaining “clean” status included MarineMax of Port Clinton, Geneva State Park Marina, Bulan’s Boatyard, the Cleveland Metroparks’ Emerald Necklace Marina, the Lorain Sailing & Yacht Club, Bay View Yacht Club, Ashtabula Yacht Club, Venetian Marina, Channel Park Marina, Brenner Marine and Sutherland Marine.
