Mercury Marine General Counsel named to new position

LAKE FOREST, Ill. – Mercury counsel Joseph H. Pomeroy has been named vice president and general counsel for Brunswick Marine in EMEA and Brunswick Asia/Pacific Group, the company reported in a statement today.

Pomeroy will oversee legal affairs for Brunswick’s marine operations in Europe and Asia/Pacific. He most recently served as general counsel of Mercury Marine, and will be succeeded in that role by Todd C. Lemke, current assistant general counsel at Mercury Marine.

Pomeroy will report to Patrick C. Mackey, executive vice president, chief operating officer – marine, Brunswick Corporation; and president, Mercury Marine. Pomeroy will assume his new role on Jan. 2.

Pomeroy has been with Brunswick Corp. for more than 20 years, and has been general counsel of its Mercury Marine division since 1992. Pomeroy joined Mercury Marine’s legal department in 1987 after working 11 years in private law practice. He graduated from Valparaiso University Law School in Indiana. As Mercury’s general counsel, Pomeroy has been very active and involved in all of Brunswick’s international marine businesses, according to the company.

“Joe brings distinctive skills and expertise to this new assignment,” said Mackey. “His knowledge of Brunswick and its marine businesses will be extremely valuable as he establishes relationships with local law firms in the regions where we are doing business.”

Pomeroy will work with regional international management teams to meet their needs for current and future legal support and services, Brunswick reported. He will be located in Belgium and will operate out of Brunswick Marine in EMEA offices in Verviers.

Lemke, who joined Mercury Marine in 1991 as a staff attorney following seven years in private practice, has been Mercury’s assistant general counsel since 2004.

Lemke has directed a broad range of legal activities for Mercury Marine and has been involved in almost all aspects of Mercury’s business, including litigation, according to the company. He also has represented Mercury Marine in a number of marine industry associations, as well as regulators such as the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.

Lemke received a bachelor of arts degree from Ohio’s Denison University and his law degree from John Marshall Law School in Chicago.
