Lewmar USA names COO

GUILFORD, Conn. – Gregory J. Smith has been named chief operating officer of Lewmar USA, the U.S. subsidiary of the international marine equipment supplier, and president of Navtec Corp., Inc., Lewmar’s marine rigging division, the company reported in a recent statement.

The appointment was made earlier this week by Peter O’Connell, newly-promoted CEO of parent company Lewmar Marine plc. headquartered in Havant, U.K. Smith will be based in Guilford, Conn., the main office for both Lewmar USA and Navtec.

Smith is the former director of operations for General Electric Aviation’s Times Microwaves Systems in Waterbury, Conn. Prior to that he had his own manufacturing business and was general manager of the Windsor (Conn.) division of Barnes Group, Inc., an aerospace component manufacturer, according to Lewmar. He replaces Peter W. Arentzen who has left the company.

The 42-year-old Smith will be responsible for managing the two companies’ new U.S. investment in manufacturing and product development, reporting directly to O’Connell.

Smith holds an MBA from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of New Haven. An avid sports car racer, he resides in Old Saybrook, Conn., with his wife, Elizabeth, and one daughter.
