Brunswick exec hired by 3M

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Marschall I. Smith, vice president, general counsel and secretary of Brunswick Corp., will become senior vice president, Legal Affairs and General Counsel, 3M, effective July 16, the company said in a release this week.

Smith will replace Richard Ziegler, who announced his retirement earlier in the year.

“I am delighted that Marschall is joining 3M in this important role,”
George W. Buckley, chairman of the board, president and CEO, 3M, said. “His experience in many types of businesses makes him an ideal match for the tremendous product and technology diversity of 3M. I know he will make great contributions in helping us drive our growth agenda forward.”

Smith, 62, has served as vice president, general counsel and secretary of Brunswick Corp. since 2001. Prior to that, he was executive vice president, Corporate Development and General Counsel of Digitas, Inc.; senior vice president and general counsel, IMC Global, Inc.; and senior vice president and General Counsel, American Medical International, Inc., following 11 years at Baxter, International, Inc.
