NMEA names new board members
SEVERNA PARK, Md. – The National Marine Electronics Association has elected two new members to its board of directors: Howard Rock, owner, Marine Electronics of the Outer Banks, a dealership in Nags Head, N.C.; and Tom Burke, national product director, Simrad, Inc. in Everett, Wash., NMEA said in a press release this month.
“Both have a depth of industry experience and a dedication to see the industry grow and improve,” said Mark Young, NMEA chairman. “They will provide valuable insight in guiding the future of the association.”
Rock and Burke join a 16-member board of directors charged with building professionalism and standards in the industry to provide a safe and exciting boating experience for the consumer. Rock will serve on the NMEA board as the Mid-Atlantic regional director and Burke will serve as a manufacturer director.
Howard Rock began his career in the industry working at Newport News Shipbuilding on the USS John F. Kennedy, an aircraft carrier. He has also worked for a Hatteras Yacht dealer and for Raytheon Marine. Since 1977 he has owned and operated marine electronics dealerships that have serviced naval vessels, light commercial vessels and sport fishing yachts.
Tom Burke has worked for Robertson, Robertson Shipmate, Simrad Robertson, Simrad and now Navico. After starting out in the business as a technician, Burke was promoted to field service engineer, service manager and today he is Simrad’s national product director.
