NMEA opens search for new president
SEVERNA PARK, Md. – The National Marine Electronics Association has begun a search for a new president and executive director for the 500-member association, NMEA said in a press release Friday.
The former president, Bonnie Barsa, has accepted a position with another association outside the marine industry. Akua Assata, NMEA director of education, has been appointed interim executive director while a search is conducted for a permanent president and executive director.
“We are opening a position search immediately,” said Mark Young, NMEA chairman. “With a great number of ongoing NMEA initiatives in education, standards and member benefits, it is important for us to find capable candidates as soon as possible. In the meantime, we do not anticipate any interruption in services to NMEA members.”
The person holding the position has operational leadership and management responsibility for delivering NMEA’s benefits and services to its members. The new president and executive director will work with a 16-member board of directors to fulfill the NMEA’s mission, which focuses on building professionalism and standards in the industry to provide a safe and exciting boating experience for the boating consumer.
