Flagship Marinas names new president

DALLAS – Alex Laidlaw has been named president of Flagship Marinas, the country’s third-largest marina and marina management company, Flagship reported in a release this morning.
Laidlaw replaces Gregg Kenney, who is stepping down from the day-to-day management of the company after serving as president of the Dallas-based company for six years. Kenney will remain with Flagship as one of the company’s three managing partners.

“Gregg has created a first-rate company with a roster of outstanding employees who are dedicated to providing the level of service that’s expected from a Flagship marina,” Laidlaw said. “The company’s culture and standards are consistent with what I expect of myself, and I look forward to providing the kind of leadership that will ensure our continued success.”

Laidlaw, formerly vice-president of operations for Flagship, is a Certified Marina Manager and has more than 15 years of marina operations experience. He is well known within the industry, and serves as vice-chair of the Board of Directors for the Association of Marina Industries. He also sits on the boards of Marina Operators of Lake Lanier in Atlanta, the Marine Environmental Education Foundation and is a former board member of the Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation. He additionally serves on the Editorial Advisory Board of Boating Industry magazine.

Prior to joining Flagship, Laidlaw was an area vice-president at Westrec Marinas in Georgia. He managed the southern tier of the company’s marinas that comprised 3,000 slips and $50 million in assets. He was raised near Baltimore, Md. where his family owned a 14-store chain of discount marine supply houses called BoatGear America.

“As we continue to build the Flagship brand, we are adapting the amenities and services to meet the new demands of the industry, such as the growing number of mega-yachts and an increasing desire for dynamic marina environments that offer the excitement and energy of restaurants, retail, hotels and residential activity,” Laidlaw said. “The best marinas have it all.”
