MIASF hands out awards, names new leaders

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Marine Industries Association of South Florida recognized George Irwin with the 2006 Gold Anchor Award, gave out three other awards of excellence and named organization leadership for the coming year at the MIASF Annual Awards Gala over the weekend, MIASF said in a statement Monday.

Pipewelders Marine’s George Irvine received the 2006 Golden Anchor Award. The award recognizes an individual for a lifetime of achievement and extra ordinary accomplishment benefiting the marine industry. Industry partners John Ziegler, Waterfront News; Shary Patton, ASA Promotions; and Yachting Promotions management and staff were also honored with Awards of Excellence at the gala for their contributions to the marine industry in the past year.

Two directors were re-elected and three new directors were selected during MIASF’s recent board elections. The results, which produced several changes to association leadership, were revealed at the gala. Officers and Directors for the 2006-2007 term are:

  • Kristina Hebert, Ward’s Marine Electric, Inc. – President
  • J.J. McConnell, Gilman Yachts of Fort Lauderdale – Vice President
  • John Stephens, Lewis Marine Supply – Secretary/Treasurer
  • Jay Reynolds, J.P. Reynolds Co., Inc. – Past President
  • Jim Bronstien, Bron Properties – Director
  • Jeff Dana, Pantropic Power – Director
  • Wes Dickman, HMY Yacht Sales – Director
  • Phil Everingham, The Marine Council – Director
  • Patricia Hamilton, Keystone Point Marina – Director
  • Mark Hanke, MarineMax/Associated Marine Technologies – Director
  • John Mann, Bluewater Books & Charts – Director
  • Craig Muir, Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World – Director
  • Chris Wren, Downtown Development Authority – Director
  • Jim Bronstien and Wes Dickman were re-elected to the board. Jeff Dana, John Mann and Craig Muir are new to the board. Patience Cohn and Don Kenniston retired from the board.

    “I would like to thank Patience Cohn and Don Kenniston for their dedication and years of service to the MIASF,” said Frank Herhold, MIASF executive director. “The Association has grown and strengthened over the course of their terms and their accomplishments are to be commended. I would also like to congratulate and welcome our new directors. We have some fresh faces full of new ideas and I look forward to working with them in the coming year.”
