Brunswick Foundation awards scholarships

LAKE FOREST, Ill. – One hundred sons and daughters of Brunswick Corp. employees will be getting a little help with their college tuition and fees, thanks to the Brunswick Foundation, the company said in a press release Wednesday.

For nearly 50 years, the foundation has been awarding scholarships to worthy Brunswick-employee children. For 2006, the foundation has granted nearly $400,000 in scholarships. Winners represent 29 Brunswick locations in the United States and Canada. Awards provide for either up to $2,000 in annual support or multi-year awards up to $8,000 per student.

“Clearly an education is of tremendous importance,” said Adrian Sakowicz, Brunswick’s vice president of community relations and corporate marketing alliances and Brunswick Foundation president. “Each year, we consider applicants worldwide for the Sons & Daughters Scholarship Program. It is truly Brunswick’s privilege to help these fine students pursue their goals.”

Marquette University, University of Chicago Graduate School of Business and Northwestern University professionals comprise an impartial, outside committee that selects the scholarship recipients. Scholarships are awarded based on the applicant’s academic record and leadership abilities, as extracurricular activities demonstrate. Financial need is an additional consideration for the single-year awards. All scholarships can only be used toward a baccalaureate degree.

This year’s winners are sons and daughters of employees at 16 Brunswick business units: Attwood Marine, Baja, Crestliner, Hatteras, Land ‘N’ Sea, Lowe, Lund, Mercury Marine, Sea Ray, US Marine, Triton, Brunswick Corporate, Brunswick Bowling & Billiards, Hammer Strength, Life Fitness and Valley-Dynamo.
