CHICAGO – The National Marine Manufacturers Association has hired John Warnik as executive director of the Marine Association for Technology Exchange Standards, NMMA said in a press release Friday.

Warnik also oversees NMMA’s Marine Data Exchange supply chain management program. He is based out of NMMA’s Chicago office and reports to Tom Marhevko, NMMA vice president of engineering standards.

“John brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the table, and we’re very pleased to have him focusing on these critical standards and supply chain improvement initiatives,” Marhevko said.

In his role as MATES executive director, Warnik will provide leadership to the association’s board of directors, committees and task forces, as well as facilitate and build consensus among MATES members to drive standards development. It is used to trade business documents electronically, such as purchase orders, ship notices and invoices.

Warnik comes to NMMA from Chicago’s Bostrom Corporation, where he served as an analyst and association client liaison. Prior to that he spent nearly seven years with Life Services Network, most recently as IT director, where he implemented and managed computer infrastructure including e-mail and Windows servers. He also administered the association’s membership database, maintained websites and managed e-communities.

Warnik has 14 years of experience working in the non-profit sector. Before signing on to lead MATES, he also spent six years working for the Lutheran Family Mission, where he served as both director of information systems and director of development.
