BWI members elect new directors

WILMETTE, Ill. – Boating Writers International members have elected two new directors and reelected three officers, according to a statement from the organization today.

Zuzana Prochazka, a freelance writer, and Lindsey Savin, National Marine Manufacturers Association trade communications manager are new to the board and will serve three-year terms. Officers reelected to one-year terms are writer and editor Roger Marshall, president; editor, writer and photographer Kim Kavin, first vice president; and author Betsy Frawley Haggerty, second vice president. The elected will take their seats during BWI’s annual meeting at 8 a.m. on Feb. 17 in rooms A 101 – 102 in the Miami Beach Convention Center.

Prochazka is a regular contributor to Latitudes and Attitudes magazine. Her work has appeared in Santana, Dockside, Voyaging, Newport Beach 714, and the Los Angeles Times Sunday Magazine, as well as online at underwatercolors.com, sailingbreezes.com, and floridascubanews.com. She has served as an NMMA Innovation Award judge at the International Boatbuilders’ Exhibition and Conference, Miami International Boat Show and Marine Aftermarket Accessories Trade Show for several years.

Savin produces NMMA’s weekly e-newsletter, Currents, and writes for Innerport, a bi-monthly magazine. She is the primary liaison between NMMA and the consumer and trade boating press, writes and distributes informational materials, and attends and reports on many consumer and trade boat shows and events. Prior to joining NMMA, Savin worked as a staff writer for Soundings Trade Only and briefly as a public relations account manager for Jerry Martin Co.

Continuing as directors are immediate past president Michael Sciulla, editor of BoatU.S. Magazine; Jim Hendricks, associate publisher of the Ehlert Boating Group (Trailer Boats, Bass & Walleye Boats and WaterCraft World); Bill Pike, senior editor for Power & Motoryacht magazine; and Mike Walker, a writer/broadcaster and communications agency president. BWI executive director Greg Proteau serves as secretary/treasurer of the board.
